Audi S3 - Urban Automotive Photography

Cars are as much a part of city life as the buildings and streets around them. This series focuses on the Audi S3 in an urban setting, using both colour and black and white to explore the relationship between the vehicle and its surroundings, reflection, surface texture and the contrast between machine and street.

The shoot was kept deliberately light and mobile, with equipment fitting into a single rucksack so the car could be moved between locations. That kind of constraint tends to produce more considered images; you work with what the location gives you rather than imposing a setup on it.

The S3 is a clean subject for this kind of work. The proportions are tight, the lines are direct, and the blacked-out details respond well to directional light. Both natural and mixed ambient light were used across the set.

On this wet Sunday, Lytham remembers.

Help for Heroes.

Remembrance Sunday is held in the United Kingdom as a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts. It is held on the second Sunday in November.

Fairhaven United Reformed Church - The White Church

Good morning,

Here is a photo following on from my personal project of photographing Church’s.

Although officially Fairhaven United Reformed Church, this church is known locally as The White Church.

The story of the White Church begins at a meeting of the congregation of Lytham Congregational Church in 1899 with the suggestion that there should be a new church in Fairhaven on the estuary of the Ribble on land leased by the Clifton family of Lytham Hall.  A month after the proposal was made they received great encouragement for their vision.  The Congregational Union of England and Wales had commenced a fund to raise half a million guineas for church extension… ‘in view of the rapid increase in population’.

Now there was no stopping them and with scarcely a setback they began raising the money that would be required to build the new church, a church which they all agreed should be a distinctive architectural feature in the district (and it is!).

Four firms were chosen to submit designs. The successful architects were Briggs, Wolstenholme and Thornley of Blackburn who won with a design that imitated some of the features of Byzantine architecture (on the outside that is).  When the church was opened on October 17, 1912, eight years after the opening of the new church hall on May 4 1904, their vision was realised.

St Annes Parish Church

Hello, I hope that you are well.

Today I would like to share some images taken of the Parish Church of St Annes.

The Above image was lit by attaching LumeCube lights to a drone and flown close by to illuminate different areas. Multiple exposures were taken and then blended in photoshop.

The church is from which the town took its name. It is part of the Church of England and in the Diocese of Blackburn

History

The building of St Annes Church was commissioned by Lady Clifton in the early 1870s and named in memory of her aunt who was called Anne. It was built as a chapel of ease to the then parish church of St Cuthbert in Lytham to benefit the farm labourers and fishermen of the hamlet of Heyhouses, who had difficulty in getting to church on a Sunday morning. It was several miles walk

Good morning.

I like to share some images of Blackpool front.

Blackpool’s sea front, with its dazzling lights and timeless charm, has been a beloved destination for generations. Stretching along the Fylde Coast, Blackpool’s sea front is famous for its piers, the iconic Blackpool Tower, and a lively promenade filled with attractions.

Standing tall since 1894, Blackpool Tower is an enduring symbol of the city’s heritage. As the sun sets, the tower lights up, creating a spectacular sight against the evening sky.

Hello,

A few images of different transport along Blackpool Promenade.

In this post I have included the camera settings, as I wanted to illustrate the different shutter speeds used whilst panning to capture the moving vehicles. All images taken were handheld.

But I am sure you will agree when it works, the images look great and really isolate the moving vehicle in the blurred moving scene.

Neptune Energy Aberdeen

Good morning,

Another Aberdeen office. This is one of the first photos taken with my drone. It was a nerve wrecking flight that’s for sure ha!

Some information on the building.

This commercial building was completed in 2015 for energy firm GDF Suez, designed by the award winning Halliday Fraser Munro. The project value was £8 million. This distinctive building in Aberdeen city centre was winner of the BCO award for ‘Best Commercial Workplace’ in 2015. Judges in the British Council for Offices’ (BCO’s) Regional Awards said the 40,000 square feet riverside development showed what can be achieved by a “clear vision that puts the needs of the occupier centre stage”, while at the same time benefiting the wider community.

The building is now occupied by Neptune Energy, who are an independent exploration and production company in the oil and gas industry, who have a regional focus on the North Sea, North Africa and Asia Pacific with a diverse, gas-weighted portfolio and deep industry expertise.

Have a great weekend.

Lee

Have you ever wondered,  - how do they maintain the iconic lights on Blackpool Tower?

Lets meet the lighting engineer responsible for keeping the famous Blackpool Tower illuminated. His job involves regularly abseiling 518 ft down one of Lancashire's most iconic structures to maintain its computer-operated system of 225,000 LED bulbs.

Even at home, the tower is never far away. It is visible from his back window, and calls from colleagues asking him to check on the lights are not uncommon. "Everyone round here knows what I do," he says. "They love to criticise and tell me if they see a light out."

The top of the tower is a magnet for tourists, many of whom visit specifically to experience the SkyWalk, the glass floor observation deck that sits 380 ft above the Promenade. What most visitors do not realise is that the man keeping those lights burning may well be hanging beneath their feet.

This was a rare opportunity to photograph a working at height environment at serious elevation. Rope access work at this scale requires meticulous planning, the right competencies, and absolute confidence in equipment and technique. The images here give a sense of just how exposed that worksite is.
